On Thursday night at Fenway Park in Boston, the Red Sox pounded the visiting Yankees in historic fashion.
Behind a pair of home runs and four RBI from shortstop Xander Bogaerts, Boston rolled to a 19-3 win over New York and scored the most runs they ever have against their historic rivals in the process. With the two dingers, Bogaerts now has 23 homers, equaling the career-high mark he set in 2018.

Besides scoring 19 runs against the Yanks for the first time in franchise history, the Red Sox also equaled their largest margin of victory over New York, winning by 16 runs for the first time since a 17-1 drubbing at Fenway on July 15, 2005.
In addition to Bogaerts, who had four hits total during the game, the Sox offense was led by Andrew Benintendi and Jackie Bradley Jr. who had three hits apiece. Eight players had at least two RBIs for Boston, tying an MLB record.
Despite the offensive explosion, the Sox remain 10 games behind the Yankees in the AL East and are still 1.5 games out of a wildcard spot in the American League. Winner of three out of their last four, the Sox have 10 straight games left against the Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays.
“It’s a good time for everyone to be contributing,” Bogaerts said. “If we keep it up for two months I think we’ll be in very good shape, but it’s hard to do.”
