For some, keeping up with the Joneses (white picket fence, shiny new car, a plucky cocker spaniel named Rusty) is all you need in life to remain happy and satisfied.
Others have a need to keep up with another type of Jones: Indiana. It’s for those folks that ex-Royal Air Force member Mark Prior created his Adventure Academy.
Prior — who’s driven a rickshaw 2,900 miles through India to the Himalayas and piloted a motorbike 6,500 miles through Chile and Argentina down to Patagonia and back — designed his one-week course to teach attendees about the benefits of incorporating adventure into life.
The four-person (including Prior) course takes place across several islands in Indonesia and features experiences like climbing an active volcano, bathing in hot springs outside a mountain village, taking a motorcycle through the streets of Bali and staying in a local person’s home.
“There’s nothing like this that exists in the world,” Prior told Outside Magazine. “You’re working with total strangers, and the first time you meet them is on the other side of the world. At the end of the day, it comes down to trust and a willingness to go with the flow.”
The course is best suited for anyone who “is ready to break through mindset barriers and wants to be pushed to the next level.” Those who need a daily hot shower and wifi to kick off the day need not apply.
Given the scope of the $4,000 and up course, spots are earned instead of purchased, but if you think you have what it takes, double-check your insurance info and start your application.
