Just like you wouldn’t use a computer from the ‘80s to peruse the interwebs, nor should you use a pair of running shoes from that era to leg out a marathon. But while those old circuit boards serve essentially no purpose these days, old-school running kicks like these revamped Saucony Azuras — originally designed in 1988 — can stand to add some vintage flair to your footwear collection.
While these are an upgraded re-release of an actual running shoe, they’re best employed as a casual option with a pair of rolled jeans and tee. Sure, you can run in them, but given the advancement in running-shoe technology, it would be like using that ‘80s computer to dial up AOL when you’ve got access to a Macbook and wifi. These are best reserved for city strolling and looking cool as hell.
But just because they’re not really going to be used for running anymore doesn’t mean Saucony skimped on quality. The Azura 1988s feature a rubber outsole, EVA midsole for sustained comfort, organic micro-suede upper and padded tongue and collar to keep things soft and cushy. They currently come in three colorways; we prefer the white and orange.
