This summer you’ve inevitably broken, scratched or lost your sunglasses.
We can’t help you on the last one.
But the scratched/broken part? Revant
Optics has a solution.
RO’s been offering replacement lenses for sunnies and prescription eyewear for a little while now, which is nice. But now they’ve promised to replace the lenses on any frame from any brand … and make your glasses better in the process.
So we tested it out.
The Portland-based service actually launched in 2010, but only offered their services for a few brands.
Now, it’s in the thousands. Your frames discontinued, vintage or just not showing up on the site? RO’s created a Custom Cut Program — basically, they’ll trace your frames and cut made-to-order lenses.
If they have the lenses, you might spend as little as $24/pair.
And you can upgrade: get ‘em polarized, impact resistant, slimmed down, in a new color or better suited for specific activities (running, driving, kayaking, etc.).
In our case, we had nice old pair of roughed-up Gucci aviators that weren’t listed on the site. So they sent us a prepaid box, we shipped it off, and a few weeks later, we had ‘em back with better lenses, good as new. Lenses in stock can be sent in as little as one business day, while custom orders take 2-3 weeks.
The company also offers a 60-day return policy and a one-year warranty.
Conclusion: if you only buy cheap throwaway shades, this might not be the service for you.
But if you’ve got a beat-up $200+ pair lying in a drawer, this is certainly worth a look.
