An accomplice through painful losses, triumphant victories and pump cheese blots of epic proportions, a man’s football-viewing jersey should be a lifelong companion that he’d never trade for another.
Unless that jersey has Aaron Hernandez’s name on the back. Then a man must change it up.
Created with much less sinister reasoning, Rep the Squad is a subscription club that delivers current and throwback jerseys to your door for you to wear and then send back when you choose. Once you return one, a new (washed and clean) jersey will arrive in three days.
As for the jersey you send back, as long as it hasn’t been set on fire, bathed in mud or stained beyond recognition, Rep the Squad will take it back. If you want to buy it, that’s possible as well (and at a discount).
Backed by athletes like Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin and Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate, Rep the Squad was started by e-commerce entrepreneur Brian Watkins after he saw the success from rental business models like Rent the Runway.
“How many jerseys can you really afford to own?” Watkins told ESPN. “Wouldn’t it be nice to not only wear the players on your favorite team, but also be able to wear the jerseys of the players on your fantasy team?”
Currently available for fans of the Seahawks, Lions and San Francisco 49ers, the service will eventually be expanding to other NFL markets and will start offering NBA jerseys in the future.
An adult membership is $19.95 per month (youths are $16.95) and you can cancel at any time.
