It appears Aaron Rodgers isn’t the only NFL quarterback who has a parent with a troublesome social media account.
Lisa Wilson, the mother of New York Jets rookie quarterback Zach Wilson, has been taking a lot of heat and getting some nasty messages on social media, likely partly related to her criticizing the mask policy at Disney World back in May.
The mother of five other children besides the No. 2 overall of the NFL Draft, Wilson has seen her social media following grow since draft night and generally shares recipes, workouts and advice on raising children on her IG account.
However, rants like the one about Disney have clearly turned some followers off and led to Wilson taking some heat. But Wilson says she can take it — and refused to accept her son’s offer of payment to cancel her Instagram account and deprive her 30,000 or so followers of her content.
“He says ‘Mom, if it’s about money, I’ll give you money.’ I said ‘Zach, I don’t need your money,’” she said in a recent post. “I said, ‘Zach, you know what? If you saw the messages that I receive every single day from women that started exercising again. Women that are learning to cook for the first time ever. Women that are changing their relationships with their husbands. Women that tell me that the only reason that they’re getting out of bed is because of my Instagram. The only thing that keeps them from taking a handful of pills is because something I said that day resonated with them.’ I refuse to abandon those people. I can take the heat. Bring it on.”
The 21-year-old quarterback, a Mormon from Utah, has previously said he would prefer his mother had a lower profile and “can’t stand these people treating my mom like crap.”
“Yeah, it’s not my favorite for sure,” the younger Wilson said in May. “I like to keep her out of the spotlight. She’s an awesome lady and I love having her support.”
