Fresh off his first win at the Rose Bowl, retiring Ohio State coach Urban Meyer may already have another gig line up.
According to The Sporting News, the 54-year-old is close to finalizing a deal to join Fox Sports as the network’s star college football analyst.
If he joins the Fox team, Meyer will have the choice to work as a color commentator in the game booth or as a studio analyst. “Fox feels like they have enough good (college football) games now to really compete with ESPN,” a source told TSN. “If this comes off, the question is: Does he call games or work the studio?”
Following his time at Florida, Meyer worked as an ESPN studio analyst before returning to the sidelines at Ohio State.
It makes sense Meyer would take a television gig as he previously said he has no interest in taking a coaching position in the NFL.
“I could never work at a place … I see some of these guys’ records because the NFL is so even,” Meyer said. “Some of these guys, their record is 74-58. I could never do that.”
As it stands, Meyer is one of college football’s greatest coaches as he went 187-32 with three national championships (two at Florida and one at Ohio State) in 17 years as a head coach.
