When “Monday Night Football” kicks off next season on ESPN, former quarterback Brett Favre will not be under center.
According to The New York Post, the Pro Bowler was one of a handful of former pro players who are under consideration to replace Jon Gruden in the “MNF” booth this season.
However, after Favre “was not great” during an audition with the network, he has been notified he is no longer under consideration for the role.
Next up, ESPN will be bringing in Rex Ryan and Booger McFarland to audition for the position alongside Joe Tessitore, who has already been tapped to handle play-by-play duties on “MNF.”
With regard to Favre, it’s worth noting ESPN may have done itself a favor in the wake of the MeToo movement considering the ex-signal caller’s alleged involvement in a 2008 sexting scandal with Jenn Sterger when he was a member of the New York Jets.
