Following in the footsteps of late Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter, a Louisiana Congressman is using his position to attempt to influence the NFL.

Mired in the midst of the ongoing government shutdown, House minority whip Steve Scalise is focusing on what’s really important and is calling on the NFL to replay the NFC Championship game between the Saints in the Rams in the wake of a missed penalty that paved the way for LA to win in overtime over New Orleans.

“Frankly, they should play a makeup game,” according to Rep. Scalise. “If the Saints played the Rams on Saturday, I think it’d be the highest-watched sports event all year.”

Even if the game doesn’t take place, Rep. Scalise still likes the Saints’ Super Bowl chances … in 2020.  “We’re going to do some reverse voodoo and get back in the Super Bowl next year,” he said.

While it’s unclear if Rep. Scalise will take his beef all the way to Washington, there is some historical context if he does.

Bitter after the Eagles lost to the Patriots in the Super Bowl following the 2005 regular season, the aforementioned Specter made a floor statement in Congress on New England’s alleged videotaping of other team’s practices.

When Specter made his plea in 2008, it didn’t go anywhere.
