LeBron James is allegedly seeking to convince his good friend Carmelo Anthony to take his talents to Los Angeles.

That’s according to a report first released by The Athletic that claims James sees Anthony as a potential veteran presence for his younger teammates to learn from. The heavily injured LA team could also use Melo’s help as a fresh pair of legs, Bleacher Report argued, with Rajon Rondo and Brandon Ingram both currently sidelined — especially in the wake of the failed Michael Beasley signing.

Anthony has been away from the game for for nearly a month after “parting ways” with the Houston Rockets after only 10 games nearly a month ago. After the news first broke, however, James said he had “no idea” if his Lakers would try to sign his friend.

“I really hope that, before our career is over, we can all play together,” James once said about Melo and their mutual buddies, Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul. “At least one, maybe one or two seasons—me, Melo, D-Wade, CP—we can get a year in. I would actually take a pay cut to do that.”
