The king of football in Kansas City has officially joined the Royals family by taking an ownership stake in KC’s baseball team.
The Royals announced on Tuesday that Patrick Mahomes, the reigning Super Bowl MVP, has become a part-owner of the team.
“We are very proud and excited to have Patrick as our partner in the ownership group of this franchise,” said Royals principal owner John Sherman. “Along with the rest of Kansas City, I have watched Patrick compete and become an extraordinary leader, both on and off the football field. Consistent with the entirety of our ownership group, he has a deep commitment to Kansas City and a real passion for the game of baseball — dating back to his childhood.”
Mahomes, whose father Pat pitched for six teams over 11 seasons in MLB, is already committed to being in Kansas City for more than a decade after signing a 10-year, $450 million extension with the Chiefs in early July that includes a no-trade clause and can keep him with the team through 2031.
After inking the deal, Mahomes said he was in Kansas City “to stay.”

Now, by becoming an owner of the local baseball team, he’s certainly putting his money where his mouth is.
“I’m honored to become a part-owner of the Kansas City Royals,” said Mahomes said in a statement. “I love this city and the people of this great town. This opportunity allows me to deepen my roots in this community, which is something I’m excited to do.”
