Cam Newton's Offer to Swap Plane Seats for $1,500 Rejected

How much is extra legroom on a transatlantic flight worth?

To one man who happened to find himself on the same flight as Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, more than $1,500.

Forced to get a coach seat while traveling back to the U.S. from Paris this weekend, the 2015 NFL MVP was looking to get himself a seat with more room and was willing to pay for it.

Newton, 6’5″ and 245 pounds, offered a man $1,500 to switch seats with him prior to the 10-hour flight. In a move that likely shocked the All-Pro player, his fellow passenger turned down the cash.

After the video began making the rounds on Twitter, journalist Andy Slater shared the story of how Newton found himself scrounging for a seat with extra legroom.

“Wondering why a quarterback making $20M a year was flying coach?” Slater wrote on Twitter. “Cam Newton paid for a business class seat from Paris to Charlotte, but missed his flight. His only option to fly home that day was through Dallas in regular economy class with no extra legroom.”

That explains that end of it, but it doesn’t explain why the guy turned down the $1,500. Maybe he just really doesn’t like the Panthers?
