Each week, our inbox runneth over with news of gear, apparel and tech releases from around the world. In this feature, we’ll parse through the best of them. Today: Tracksmith’s homage to the New York City Marathon, a limited edition James Bond-inspired champagne and adult glow-in-the-dark shoes.
At this point I’ve probably written some version of this blurb about 20 times, because Sabahs really are all that and I will never pass up an opportunity to preach their gospel. It is the most comfortable and versatile shoe I have ever owned; it’s the perfect “if you can only pack one” travel shoe; it conforms to your foot like a second skin after a few wears; etc., etc. And now they’ve released their funkiest colorways to date with a series of paint-splattered slippers in black (pictured), white and blue.
A24 Screenplay Books
While not technically new, the second run of A24’s coffee-table-worthy screenplays — currently available are The Witch, Moonlight and Ex Machina — just started taking preorders for a December delivery. Each hardbound edition features never-before-seen concept art, conversations with the directors, production notes and more. It’s the perfect Xmas gift for the cinephile in your life.
Snow Peak x Staub Cocotte
You thought Staub’s enamel-coated cast iron was only for Martha Stewart wannabes and Instagrammable dinner parties? This new collaboration with Snow Peak begs to differ. At the intersection of French cookware and Japanese outdoor gear is this limited-edition Dutch oven that’ll tackle meat, veggies, soups, even bread — and even if you’re working over a campfire.
Reebok Sole Fury ’00 Shoes
It’s getting ~spooky~ up in this bitch, so prepare to look spooktacular from head to toe this Halloween. Thankfully Reebok is here to help, with the release of these GLOW-IN-THE-DARK Sole Fury ’00 shoes. The limited-edition shoes come with all of the original’s design features, including a breathable mesh upper and a bootie construction with a sock-like fit for extra style and comfort. But what really makes this pair a limited edition (besides glowing in the freakin’ dark) is the spooky scary skeleton graphic included on the sock liner — try not to scream.
Tracksmith 2019 NYC Marathon Collection
Another week, another classy collection from the retro running gear dons at Tracksmith. The now six-year-old brand is quickly making itself a household name by punching up vintage designs with modern fabrics and technologies; the newest drop pays homage to next month’s New York City Marathon with singlets, shorts, sweatshirts and tees in the city’s preferred colors: black and white.
Bollinger 007 Limited Edition, Vintage 2011
Forget the martini — James Bond loves his “Bolly.” Bollinger’s been featured in 14 Bond films, including the upcoming No Time to Die. The fruit of this tie-in Champagne was sourced from a single grand cru vineyard, the first time Bollinger’s created a cuvée solely from this cru. It’s then vinified in oak barrels, aged 7 years under cork and bottled in this exquisite gift box, featuring the names of all the previous Bond films. They’re calling it a “fantastic balance of power and elegance“; we’re just happy 007 isn’t a Chardonnay fan.
Patagonia Nano Puff™ Earflap Cap
Patagonia turned one of its best-selling jackets into a hat! Well, an earflap cap, to be precise. They took all the lightweight, warm insulation found in the Nano Puff Hoody, along with a durable water-repellent finish, to keep your head cozy and dry. The insulation is kept in place by horizontal quilt lines in a brick quilted pattern, while the soft brim provides eye protection (from the sun or snow) and the elastic earflaps protect your ears from the chill (and when you don’t need them, they tuck away quite nicely).
J.Crew Editions X Alpha Industries Barn Jacket
The latest drop from J.Crew Editions — classic J.Crew styles reimagined by other brands — comes in collaboration with Tennesse-born label Alpha Industries. Known for their iconic bombers, flight jackets and parkas, the brand was actually first commissioned in 1959 to make USA military gear that could withstand any element. So it sounds about right that this version of J.Crew’s classic Barn Jacket features military-grade button placket, double snap pockets and even a “remove before flight” tag on the left sleeve. The jacket is also lined with a safety-orange lining, which pilots would turn inside out to signal emergencies. Hopefully you won’t have to do that.
El Tesoro Extra Añejo
To be considered an extra añejo, a tequila must spend at least three years in the barrel. Most distillers move to bottling the moment they hit that number, but Carlos Camarena, the affable master distiller at Jalisco-based tequila label El Tesoro, doesn’t like to do things the way everyone else does. His latest expression blends four- and five-year tequilas that are aged in old bourbon barrels to realize a delicate sipping tequila that delivers sweet and smoky notes in perfect lockstep. It works equally well as a pre-dinner palate cleanser or the perfect pairing with dessert, and at $99, represents great value for a special-occasion sipper.
Everlane The Leather Bomber Jacket
Everlane is a master of basics: well-priced, minimalist and made from decidedly modest materials. On Friday, they released a leather jacket that sticks to the first two tenets, but blows the last out of the water. This lambskin bomber looks and feels luxe, with leather sourced from New Zealand, but in true Everlane fashion, it comes in at just $298. At that price, and with only 270 available for purchase, expect this one to sell out posthaste.
