Last year, we took an Oru Kayak down the Devils River in Texas and lived to tell the tale — to the not-so-subtle-surprise of a local river guide.
Oru Kayaks, if you need a refresher, transition from a carrying case to a functional boat in mere minutes thanks to a malleable, custom polypropylene construction. In simpler terms: they can pack down into a backpack, yet somehow manage to hold their own against the country’s deadliest eddies.
Which is why we’re especially excited to hear about their latest brainwave, The Haven, a tandem kayak set to launch on Indiegogo later this year. Details are limited at the moment, but expect a 40-pound craft with sufficient space for the Clark to your Lewis, along with the same flexible origami stylings we’ve come to appreciate from the brand. It stands to reason that this pack should be a bit more adventure-limited (you probably won’t be hiking as far with all that weight on your back), but with Oru’s reasonable prices and a veritable track record, we should all be in good hands.
