Founded by a Green Beret, GORUCK has morphed from an events brand (which still hosts 1000+ GORUCK challenges per year) to a full-service apparel and gear company.
We’ve been fans of their battle-tested gear for years.
In a collaboration with lifestyle retailer Huckberry, the brand just introduced a new take on their original ruck. You might remember the original GR1; that military-inspired pack could handle getting loaded with a 45 lbs iron plate and dragged through the mud for two days. It also came with a lifetime guarantee and featured a bombproof laptop compartment.
The updated version, nearly a decade after the original’s launch, is called GR1 Slick. It’s minimalist and a bit toned-down in shape, as well as a little more stylish. But don’t let those looks fool you.
Available in both 21 and 26L versions, this is still a damn tough bag: It’s made from 1000 denier Cordura that’s strength tested at over 400 lbs. (note: do not carry around 400 lbs. with you day to day). And the Slick still features that separate bombproof laptop compartment — along with a false bottom to protect your gear when you drop the bag — plus internal mesh pockets, extra-padded shoulder straps and a hydration tube and room to house a 3L hydration bladder (not included).
The bag also has an open-flat design for easy access to your stuff, plus an external slack pocket for storing smaller items.
Only 200 of these GR1 updates were made, so act quickly. The bags are available in black and, well, black, and only for sale at Huckberry.
