While winning the Australian Institute of Architects’ National Award for Residential Architecture is impressive, it was a another prize for which Villa Marittima took first place that really got our attention:
2015 Pool of the Year.
The uber-modern, open-plan beachfront estate overlooks the Bass Strait on Australia’s Mornington Peninsula, and features “translucent, luminous polycarbonate” walls that give it a neon glow straight out of an ‘80s noir cop serial.
The Villa also has no stairs, instead separated into a “continuous sequence of spaces” accessed via graduated ramps. Situated between the ocean and the pool, the home also contains a three-sided fireplace, in-floor asymmetric lighting strips and a grand piano for entertaining.
As for the award-winning pool, it contains a submerged yellow resin walkway that leads to a “secret garden” and is filled with ever-changing natural and artificial light patterns.
