If you’re like us, you’ve fantasized about having a place on top of the world. Well, in Australia you can own a place that’s quite literally on top of the hemisphere. Which is a good start.
The penthouse in Melbourne’s Eureka Tower, which has the highest public vantage point in a building in the Southern Hemisphere (and is also the 15th tallest residential building in the world), is now for sale. Rising 975 feet in the air, the tower provides stunning views of the cosmopolitan city, and its penthouse spans the entire 86th floor.
The four-bed, four-bath dwelling sits in the center of a city that ranks on the top of many “most livable” lists. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer 360-degree views of Melbourne and beyond, from the Macedon Ranges to Port Philip Bay.
Designed for lavish entertaining and family living, the luxury pad boasts a grand dining room and relaxed and formal living rooms, as well as a plush theater. Separated from the butler’s pantry by a luminous onyx divide, the spacious family kitchen, filled with natural light, is the perfect space to enjoy your morning coffee up in the clouds. The barbecue area adds to the already long list of amenities geared for hosting guests, with a recycled timber floor and stainless steel appliances.
The master bedroom arguably has the best views in the whole place, looking out over the Royal Botanic Gardens. Its en-suite bathroom provides a view of the Melbourne Cricket Ground that comes in a close second. In addition to the en-suite’s spa-style bathtub and retractable TV, the room also boasts two spacious dressing rooms.
The 7,100-square-foot penthouse, outfitted in the classic New York Art Deco style, was renovated over two years to reflect the former owner’s refined taste. The home features imported hand-carved ceilings, leather-padded walls, brass door inlays, silk carpets, French oak hardwood floors, Italian marble, and a gas fireplace (the only one in the entire building). The gold leaf entrance, ornate ironwork, and elegant timber cabinetry evoke style sentiments of the 1920s.
Despite the vintage look, the luxury apartment is riddled with state-of-the-art smart home tech, including atmospheric lighting, sound systems, concealed TVs, a security system, and electronic blinds. Eureka Tower offers resort-style recreation facilities, elevator access, and private parking with five spots designated for the penthouse.
Listed through Sotheby’s International Realty, the penthouse was put on the market this fall. The owners are taking inquiries until December 6. While the listing says the price is available upon request, Australian media report the current price tag hovering around $22 million. Find more information here. See more photos below.
