The former president says he took part in the affair to "manage [his] anxieties"

One time a man in a position of power had an affair because of course he did, and then no one could shut up about it for 20 years for some reason.

Anyway, there’s a new Hillary Clinton docuseries out on Hulu, which apparently means we have to keep talking about that man, AKA Bill Clinton, and the affair he had with Monica Lewinsky literal decades ago.

According to the former president, the affair was among the “things [he] did to manage [his] anxieties” throughout a presidency he compared to a 30-round boxing fight, the New York Post reported.

“Everybody’s life has pressures and disappointments, terrors, fears of whatever,” he said. “Nobody thinks they’re taking a risk.”

Clinton also discussed the aftermath of the affair and its effect on his marriage in the 4-hour docuseries, available to stream on Hulu starting Friday.

“I went and sat on the bed and talked to her,” Clinton said of the day he opened up to Hillary about the affair. “I told her exactly what happened, when it happened. I said I feel terrible about it,” he said in the doc. “We’ve been through quite a bit in the last few years. I said I have no defense, it’s inexcusable what I did.”

Both Bill and Hillary also address their experience with post-affair couples therapy in the doc, with Bill calling the sessions “one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do,” and Hillary mentioning “painful, painful discussions.”

Fortunately for Bill, he claims he’s now a changed man, saying he’s “a totally different person” than the one he was when he had an affair more than 20 years ago. Probably because, again, it was more than 20 years ago, and why are we still talking about this?

“I feel terrible about the fact that Monica Lewinsky’s life was defined by it, unfairly I think,” said Bill, who apparently thinks he is the authority on how the life of a woman he had sex with decades ago is defined, instead of, you know, that woman.

Anyway, happy Friday to Monica Lewinsky, who probably does not think her life was defined by exactly one man she had sex with more than 20 years ago, and Monica Lewinsky only.
