One of the most explosive wide receivers in the NFL claims he is under fire after saying his new quarterback’s popgun arm is more accurate that his old QB’s Howitzer.

Tyreek Hill, who was dealt from the Chiefs to the Dolphins for a haul of draft picks including a first- and a second-round selection, took the shot at his old quarterback Patrick Mahomes on his new It Needed To Be Said podcast. Speaking to his co-host Julius Collins, Hill said he felt Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was a more accurate passer than Mahomes, a Super Bowl winner and former league MVP. “Obviously, like I’m gonna go with 15 as the strongest arm but as far as accuracy-wise, I’m going with Tua all day,” Hill said on the first episode of his podcast.

Speaking on a subsequent episode, Hill said his remarks about Mahomes resulted in death threats. “I took a lot of heat, man,” he said. “From fans, from analysts, from family members. It was crazy. Like, last week was probably the craziest week of my life while playing for the Miami Dolphins. I got death threats from every social media — every social media account I own, I got death threats on. Which is ridiculous. Which I love it, you know?”

Last season, Tagovailoa’s 67.8% completion percentage did beat out Mahomes at 66.3%, but the former Alabama quarterback also attempted the second-fewest number of passes of at least 25 air yards in the entire league. Throwing to Hill this season, that attempts number is going to rise exponentially. If Hill is right, Tagovailoa’s number of deep completions will rise at the same rate.

Addressing the issue with reporters, Mahomes took the high road while also saying he was surprised by the comments from his former teammate.

No matter what else is said on the matter, the rubber will really meet the road once the pads go on when training camps kick off toward the end of next month. Hopefully the death threats to Hill, if they are actually even real, have subsided by then. According to him, he will be fine if they haven’t.

“If anyone want to give me heat for doing what’s best for me and my family, go ahead and give me heat, baby…you can all talk trash to me all day, yada, yada, death threat to Mr. Cheetah,” he said. “Whatever you want to say to Mr. Cheetah, you can do that, but please man, keep my family off-limits. That’s all I ask.”

Hill, the consummate family man.
