Draymond Green Feuding With Kevin Durant About Steph Curry Before Finals

The two former teammates got into a Twitter spat about Curry's lack of winning NBA Finals MVP in five chances

Ahead of the start of the NBA Finals tomorrow night in San Francisco, a three-time champion who will be playing in the championship round is feuding with a two-time champion who will be watching from home about the Hall-of-Fame résumé of a player they both won multiple championships with.

Draymond Green, who will start for the Warriors on Thursday against the Boston Celtics in San Fran, made an appearance on The Colin Cowherd Podcast on Tuesday and discussed how opposing defenses handled covering Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry while they were teammates during three consecutive appearances in the NBA Finals.

Green, who has thrown shade at Durant before including when they played together for the Warriors, hinted that the reason Durant took home the NBA Finals MVP trophy twice over Curry was because the latter faced more double teams than the former.

“Kevin Durant was absolutely incredible in those Finals runs,” Green said. “Steph Curry got double-teamed probably seven times the amount that KD did in a given series. So when you watch those games and you say, ‘Ah, [Curry’s] numbers could be a little down,’ He’s facing a double team…These are real double teams…These are elite teams throwing elite defenders at guys.”

Durant, who is never able to resist getting into a beef on Twitter, responded to a post of the podcast by saying: “From my view of it, this is 100% false…” He continued on from there:

Green, of course, doubled down on his double-team take in writing, “You have to learn to listen to full takes and not snippets before you get baited into tweeting Champ.” That led to another response from Durant.

What’s funny is that no one, besides maybe Green, Durant and maybe Curry, cares who wins NBA Finals MVP. People care who wins the NBA Finals. The Warriors have won three times already and have a chance for their fourth title in eight seasons. If they do and Curry doesn’t win MVP, he’ll be fine with it. Hopefully Green will be too. It’ll certainly piss Durant off — so he should be.
