Dick Butkus Is Making the Most of Being Verified on Twitter
Including "feuding" with Aaron Rodgers
Over the course of his time in football, Dick Butkus earned a reputation for a fearless and relentless style of play. His time on the gridiron is still remembered fondly among fans of the University of Illinois and the Chicago Bears, and he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979.
In January of 2022, Butkus received another storied honor — by which we mean that he became verified on Twitter. Since that time, he’s been making the most of his time on the social media service, including publicly wondering why he hasn’t automatically become a highly-paid influencer.
He’s also had a laugh at Aaron Rodgers’s expense.
He also offered some details on what, exactly, he’ll be posting about there — and that the account would also provide information on the Butkus Foundation and the Butkus Award. He also thanked three people: sports broadcaster Jarrett Payton and radio hosts Joan Esposito and Steve Bertrand.
That said, much of Friday’s tweeting involved Butkus joking about his verified status making him “trendy” on Twitter. For a lot of people, January has been a rough month. To watch a football legend embrace deadpan humor on social media, though? That might be exactly what you need to bring a smile to your face.
