Disney Allegedly Gearing Up to Launch a US Airline

The upside? Free bags. The downside? Costumed characters.

Will it be “the bare necessities,” like other airlines these days? Or “a whole new world” of air travel? For those who loathe the company, or its practices, should you “be prepared”?

Those are the questions we’re asking as reports come out that Disney is planning to launch its own U.S. airline. JustDisney.com first published the rumors, which The Telegraph subsequently reported, the major finding being that the Disney Company is “poised to start acquiring small, regional carriers in 2021.”

The particulars of the airline, however, are much more interesting (or horrifying, depending on how old you are and whether or not you saw the new Lion King). According to the insider info, passengers will be able to check a bag for free, but only if they’ve “spent a night at a Disney hotel within 48 hours.” The exterior of the planes will include both Marvel characters and princesses. And the in-flight entertainment will, naturally, be Disney+, the company’s new streaming service coming this fall.

So … will the flight attendants be dressed as Buzz Lightyear and Peter Pan or what? Not quite, but as JustDisney.com writes:

Disney songs will be being played over the airplane’s speakers as you board. There are also discussions that characters will also be making appearances before the cabin doors are closed to send you on your way. Buzz Lightyear, will have a heavy presence as your ‘captain speaking.’”

At first, the airline will reportedly focus on bringing people to Florida’s Walt Disney World Resort, with flights from Orlando to Detroit, Chicago, LaGuardia and LAX.

We’d say hide this news from your kids, but once they see Elsa painted on the side of a plane, it’s all over.
