Election Day, which this year may more appropriately be referred to as Election Week, was a stressful time for many. While some of us memed our way through election anxiety last week, others masturbated — and Pornhub has the insights to prove it.

After a tense week spent waiting for critical information that would define our nation’s future, Pornhub has finally pulled through with answers to the question on everyone’s mind last week: Just how much porn was everyone watching on Election Day?

According to Pornhub’s 2020 Election Day insights, which dropped late last week, kind of a lot. Election Day started off on a high and horny note, with traffic up 14 percent at 6 a.m. compared to normal traffic levels at that time. Traffic averaged out by mid-day, before dropping substantially around 6 p.m., when Americans were too engrossed in election coverage to attend to their regularly scheduled masturbatory duties.

But by the early morning hours, when it became apparent election results weren’t coming any time soon, it seems Americans decided to unwind with a little pornographic viewing before hitting the hay. According to Pornhub, traffic climbed to levels 14 percent higher than usual around 3 a.m. That increase was significantly more pronounced among male viewers, whose post-midnight viewership was 17 percent higher than usual. Meanwhile, female traffic was lower than male traffic throughout the day in general, reaching its lowest levels around 5 p.m.

The post-midnight traffic surge was also higher in red states — which Pornhub defined as states with a Republican governor — where traffic saw a huge increase of 16 percent above average at 3 a.m., compared to just 11 percent in states with Democratic governors.

It was a tense week, but it’s reassuring to know that even as the fate of democracy hangs in the balance, Americans can still come together united in the pursuit of online pornography.
