The year is coming to an end, which means Pornhub is ready to reveal the nitty gritty details of what everyone was whacking it to this year.

For the seventh year in a row, Pornhub has blessed us with its annual year in review report chock full of data on the world’s collective masturbatory behavior over the past 12 months. This year’s report appeared on the company’s SFW Pornhub Insights blog on Wednesday, detailing all the biggest trends, topics and searches of the year in porn. One of the main takeaways from 2019? Alien porn.

Pornhub ranked “alien” the number 2 most defining search term of 2019. According to the site’s analysis, the increased interest in extraterrestrial sex may have had a little something to do with a certain plan to storm Area 51 that became one of the year’s biggest memes. Back in July, Pornhub reported that searches for “Area 51” had surged from zero to 160,000 in a period of just four days after the Facebook event first went viral. Other popular alien-related searches included “alien impregnation,” “alien abduction” and “sexy alien babe.”

The viral Area 51 meme also influenced search traffic spikes in more PG corners of the internet as well, with Google’s year-end report ranking “What is Area 51” one of the top searches of the year.

Despite the surge in extraterrestrial horniness, however, Pornhub’s most defining search of 2019 actually reflects a growing interest in more down to earth content. The report ranked “amateur” the most defining search of 2019, which, as Dr. Laurie Betito of the Sexual Wellness Center noted, seems to suggest that “people are looking for more realistic depictions of sex.”

Whether the year’s porn-watchers were looking for aliens or amateurs, one main takeaway remains clear: people are still watching more porn. This year, Pornhub reported more than 39 billion searches, up 8.7 billion from last year. The site saw more than 42 billion visits this year, averaging out to 115 million visits per day.

All this, says Pornhub, is evidence that the site “keeps on growing and it doesn’t show signs of letting up.” Here’s hoping we all stay horny in 2020.
