You can do some interesting things with your money when you’re a billionaire. For some celebrities, investors and CEOs, that might translate into purchasing a nine-figure luxury apartment or a yacht so massive it comes with its own yacht. For Mark Cuban, the billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks, having a substantial amount of money on hand allowed him to do something few others have done — buy an entire town.
The Dallas Morning News reports that Cuban purchased the town of Mustang, Texas, which is 77 acres in size and is situated an hour’s drive south of Dallas. As for why he did it, reports are less clear — Insider‘s report on the purchase suggested that he did so as a favor to a friend, who needed to sell the town.
What’s Cuban getting for his money? A small town with a building that houses the fire department, a strip club that needs repairs and a pond in which an alligator lives. Think “Southern Gothic Schitt’s Creek,” perhaps.
As for what Cuban plans to do with the town, that remains to be seen. And that’s not simply speculation — Cuban himself seems unsure of what to do with it. “I don’t know what if anything I will do with it,” he told the Dallas Morning News via email.
