Scottish member of Parliament, Ross Greer, sparked wide debate and outrage on social media after tweeting that Prime Minister Winston Churchill was a “white supremacist” and “mass murderer.”
The 21-year-old, who is the youngest person ever elected to the British Parliament, doubled down on his claims in an editorial he wrote Wednesday for The Scotsman.
Once again for the people in the back:

“History is far more difficult than myth, especially when itâs our own,” Greer wrote. “Learning it uncovers uncomfortable truths and makes the simple narratives weâve told ourselves much more complex.
“My tweet about Churchill has certainly made some uncomfortable and others apoplectically angry,” he continued. “It was a simple point â he was a white supremacist and mass murderer.”
Greer’s tweet received both wide-spread support and heavy backlash, like from TV personality Piers Morgan, who called Greer â who is a redhead â a “ginger turd.”
The politician claims that the praise Churchill receives from history for “single-handedly” delivering England from the Nazis is a “gross oversimplification,” because “Stalin defeated Nazism too.”
“Like it or not,” Greer wrote, “Churchill was intensely racist, even by the standards of the time. He described Indians, for example, as a âbeastly peopleâ with a âbeastly religionâ and affirmed his belief that the âAryan race will triumphâ. Fellow Tories, including future Prime Minister Anthony Eden, didnât trust him because of this.”
