In 2016, South Korea sold about 41,000 robots, half as many as China, which as 25 times more the population. The country is a leader in robotics, and it is unsurprising to see robots cleaning the airport, teaching English and working assembly lines. Experts say that the country’s post-war focus on the technology sector, an eager consumer base and an “animist religious tradition” might make the population more comfortable with artificial intelligence, writes Smithsonian Magazine. This month, the country is going to show off their robotic prowess. There will be 85 robots at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics that will assist athletes, clean venues, provide translation and even ski.
