Come 2018 Infiniti will put out the QX50, home to the first variable compression engine the consumer market has ever seen, according to Wired. Developed over the course of 20 years, the variable compression engine can toggle between optimal performance and optimal fuel economy, a feat no other engine has ever pulled off. The engine is an innovation for internal combustion engines, the standard technology that over the next several decades will try to combat advances in electric propulsion. In addition to the variable compression engine, the QX50 will offer semi-autonomous driving, designated mostly for highway use. Infiniti plans to offer the car for $35,000.
