Cody Wilson, the man behind the 3D-printed plastic gun, was recently charged with sexual assault of a minor, according to the Austin Police Department. Wilson is not in custody and is believed to be out of the country, but there is a warrant out for his arrest.
Wilson met a 16-year-old on an online dating site, met her August 15, and paid her for sex, according to Austin Police Commander Troy Officer. “We are also working with national and international law enforcement partners to locate him and bring him to justice,” Officer said in a press conference. Officer also noted that he believes Wilson was tipped off by a friend of the victim that there was a police investigation underway.
Wilson founded Defense Distributed, which produced blueprints for plastic guns, and was promptly ensnared in years of legal battles over the posting of the blueprints on the internet.
