Charlize Theron will be starring in a movie about disgraced Fox News chairman Roger Ailes. The project, directed by Jay Roach, will show Theron as Megyn Kelly, a former lawyer who was a Fox News host for over a decade. The network reportedly tried to pressure her to come out in support of Ailes, but she refused. Theron will also produce the untitled Annapurna feature along with Beth Kono and AJ Dix via their Denver & Delilah banner.
Ailes ran Fox News and helped launch the careers of Kelly, Sean Hannity and Gretchen Carlson, and he was a powerful figure in Republican circles. He was forced to resign when a slew of accusations of sexual misconduct surfaced, with Carlson and Kelly’s the most high-profile. Roach has gained acclaim for taking on real-life political events in his films, like the 2000 presidential election and the Sarah Plain-centric feature Game Change. He will most likely direct the TV adaptation of Michael Wolff’s explosive book about the Trump administration, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House.
