And Now, a Porsche Racing an Airplane

Fight or flight? How 'bout both.

September 7, 2016 9:00 am EDT

This video of a Porsche 918 Spyder racing an aircraft is in German.

We don’t speak much German, so we don’t completely understand what’s going on here … except for the fact, of course, that it’s a most righteous and noble endeavor.

The Spyder is a mind-melting speed machine, though we didn’t know it had the stones to take on the power of human flight. But German motor show Grip – Das Motormagazin apparently had some idle time on their hands, so they took it upon themselves to put it to the test. The race pits driver Matthias Malmedie and a 887 HP wagon against a Zivko Edge 540 V3 at the Zweibrucken airport.

Can the Porsche punch above its weight class? See for yourself. Note that the driver doesn’t even bother to wear a helmet.

Incorrigible, those Europeans.
