A few months ago we covered development of the TF-X flying car from Terrafugia, which had already been eking along in concept and planning for a couple years.
Big news on that front: As of last week, the US Federal Aviation Administration has granted permission for the flying car to be tested in US airspace. Oh, it’s an unmanned drone version, and 1/10 the size, but who cares! It’s an f-ing flying car! And its only an estimated 8-12 years out on development.
From 04 August 2015:
The dream of the future perfect: flying cars. And while it may be a few years yet until the dream is realized, The TF-X from the aeronautic specialists at Terrafugia is bringing us one step closer. Their vision: “freedom of flight.” The road-ready hybrid electric vehicle features fixed wings and rotor propellers that allow for vertical take-offs and landings. So … no runway needed. And to streamline the experience, Terrafugia is creating a piloting system that’s similar to driving a car.
Check out the video below. Where we’re going, we won’t need roads.
