Watch a Hydrofoiling Catamaran ‘Fly’ from New York to Bermuda

Nope. Nope nope nope.

Due to the very nature of what they are designed to do, most boats don’t fly.

This one does, however.

Built to make a 662-mile journey from New York to Bermuda in 48 hours or less, the F4 is a 46-foot-long hydrofoiling catamaran that can lift off the water when it reaches very high speeds.

The custom-designed boat was put to the test by America’s Cup yachting competitor Oracle Team USA, and finished the trip in 66 hours despite battling waves reaching as high as 25 feet.

Even though the boat wasn’t able to meet its 48-hour goal, we’d say the whole “achieving open ocean flight” means we shouldn’t deem the project a complete loss.
