When Alfa Romeo kicked off their reboot with the sporty 4C Coupe in 2013, we knew they meant business.
Three years later, they very much still mean business.
You needn’t look any further than the Stelvio, the Italian maker’s first entry into the (super crowded) luxury SUV market.
Unveiled at the LA Auto Show, the Stelvio is a crazy powerful crossover with 510 ponies and a Ferrari-inspired 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine. A stripped-down version with a 2.0-liter turbo version and 280 horsepower is also in the works. Basically, getting the kids to soccer just turned into a lap on the Nürburgring. Speaking of which: the manufacturer has gone so far as to claim their new car will break to record on the SUV lap record on that very track.
For the most part, it’s a swooped-up Giulia. But it does have some neat bells and whistles, including carbon fiber brakes, a carbon fiber driveshaft and a twin-clutch torque vectoring system in the rear.
And if you’re thinking it came to the party to go mano-a-mano with a Porsche, you’re be dead on the nose.
