Every time you scuff these things, an angel loses its wings

When it comes to the greatest sneakers of all time, the Converse Chuck Taylor is not worth debating. It merely is.

And some limited editions notwithstanding, it’s gone unchanged for the better part 0f a century.

Earlier this week, though, Converse gave us a peak at what’s in store for the next generation with the Chuck Modern Lux, a streamlined take on the classic silhouette.

Building on a bustle of re-releases in recent years — you might recall the Chuck Taylor II and the All Star Modern — the cleaned-up Chuck Modern Lux is Converse taking yet another crack at reinventing itself for the youth.

And when we say cleaned-up, we mean very clean. As in: so clean you can wear these Chucks with a suit. Featuring a leather upper and subtly embossed Chuck Taylor All Star patch, the new sneaker ups the minimalism and downplays the sneaker’s heritage — in all the right ways.

Only perceived inconvenience? The price. These all-leather beauts are going for $140. If you’re unstirred, the release date is set for February 17th.
