Drive through any number of sparsely populated rural European countrysides and you’ll notice barns, sheds and lean-tos in various states of disrepair. I once asked an Icelandic Airbnb host about this phenomenon once, since there were multiple on her giant property.

Without worrying how expensive this massive barn-to-living room conversion had to have cost its owners, it’s still the perfect example of living the good life if there ever was one.
Done up by Bonetti Kozerski Architecture, the Sagaponack Barn Conversion is a private conversion of a barn near the client’s family home. A breezeway was added to connect them, creating essentially a gigantic external living room.
Inside, it’s simple. A giant couch that seats, oh, probably 214 people, an ottoman so big that Noah’s Ark could float on it in and a fireplace for approximately 57 hands to be warmed in front of at once. There’s a wall of books along a suspended catwalk (just like in the movies!), and two of the barn’s doors can be displaced to create an open-air space.
All in: it’s an exemplary rustic-to-modern conversion. Not to mention a way to make your living room feel … well, small.
