Hawkeye Access — an app that lets users browse the web on an iPhone with their eyes — is revolutionary.

Forget the Matrix jokes or how this brings us one step closer to the singularity — or at least to becoming one with our smartphone. Maybe you know what it’s like to have a body part go wonky. Maybe you love someone with reduced mobility. Maybe you don’t have the use of your hands.

In all those cases, Hawkeye will let you simply use your phone and the movement of your eyes — something that should be easy but can be impossible.

A moment, though, for the story behind the story.

Until recently, Hawkeye CEO Matt Moss’s Twitter consisted mainly of Instagrams of his sister learning to play the flute and his grandparents’ 60th anniversary.

In 2016, he tweeted recs for a couple apps he worked on.

And then, in June, kablam: “Control your iPhone with your eyes.”

As a scholarship student at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, Moss had access to iOS 12 developer beta and ARKit 2.0 augmented-reality tools — including eye-tracking. And this is what he made with it.

Now, just a few months later, he’s the CEO of Hawkeye Labs, and the Hawkeye Access app is in the App Store.

All while still a student at the University of California at Santa Barbara.

Let’s just keep him away from Grimes, shall we?

(And the drugs.)
