As anyone who’s had a wallet, phone or keys mysteriously vanish during a long drive knows, the Bermuda Triangle isn’t only in the West Atlantic — it’s also under the passenger seat.
In order to help customers retrieve lost items without having to call in a search party, Jaguar Land Rover and Tile have teamed up to create a dashboard app that will issue a 90-decibel alert tone whenever your personal effects burrow their way into the various nooks, crannies and abysses scattered throughout your car.
In order for the system to work, you’ll need to outfit items with Bluetooth-enabled Tile tags, which means the app’s efficacy isn’t limited to the confines of your jalopy — it’ll tell you the last known location of a missing object in your home or office as well.
The pioneering technology will debut in the 2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport, and anyone who has an Android and Apple device will be able to track an unlimited amount of items using the compact SUV’s 10.2-inch InControl Touch Pro infotainment screen.

“In addition to helping save time, the system is also meant to help drivers focus all their attention on the road,” says Jaguar Land Rover tech director Peter Virk. “The realization you’ve mislaid something important can be a cause of distraction.”
It does not, however, know whether you left the oven on. Our fingers are crossed, though.
