Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals made it interesting, but in the end the undefeated San Francisco 49ers were too much for them to handle in the desert.

Pedestrian for much of the season, San Fran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo broke out in a big way and threw for 317 yards and a career-high four touchdowns in a 28-25 win in Arizona on Thursday Night Football.

Reliant on the running game in the previous seven weeks, the Niners let Garoppolo air it out against an Arizona defense that has struggled to defend the pass for much of the season. That strategy worked as the 27-year-old was able to throw TDs to four different pass-catchers: George Kittle, Dante Pettis, Emmanuel Sanders and Kendrick Bourne.

“Our team has done a good job of winning in different ways this year,” Garoppolo said. “Whether it’s offense, special teams, defense or mixing and matching all of them. That’s how you create a good football team. You’re not relying on one part and everyone’s playing tomorrow. Complimentary football. That’s where we’re at right now.”

Despite Garollolo’s strong performance, the Cardinals actually had a chance to end San Fran’s winning streak when Murray hit Andy Isabella with a short pass that the speedy receiver was able to convert into an 88-yard touchdown to help Arizona close the gap to three points.

But, Garollolo was able to convert a number of tough throws on the ensuing possession to chew up time on the clock and put the game out of reach.

Speaking with reporter Erin Andrews after the game, Garoppolo’s confidence was still going strong.

Next up for the 49ers is a home matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.
