It is the stuff of college football legends. A freshman quarterback takes over a halftime and leads his team to the national championship game. That’s what happened to Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa, who helped the Crimson Tide to a stunning 26-23 overtime victory against SEC rival Georgia.
Tagovailoa led Alabama to a 13-point comeback and its second national championship in three years. Along the way, he earned the title game’s MVP honors. In the regular season, Tagovailoa attemped 53 passes for 470 yards with eight scores and was backup to Alabama’s quarterback Jalen Hurts.
“Who would have ever thought I would have been here?” Tagovailoa told ESPN after the game.
