As a reputable menswear site, Mr Porter has done a number of highly coveted collabs: Prada, Off-White, you get it. We even featured their striking, bright-blue Unimatic U1 when it was first released, shedding a little tear while writing about it because the watches on our wrists at the time were much less striking, much less cerulean.
Then we were searching through the site’s rare, but absolutely massive, sale when lo and behold, there it was: the limited-edition Unimatic, now 40% off. So we posited that there might be other equally rare timepieces on offer, and we were right. A gold-tone and stainless steel version of Timex’s Marlin, which we called our favorite budget ticker of 2018, is also discounted by 40%.
You could look at this as a choice between the two, because the faces are so incompatible they seem to be different for different people. But with a combined savings of $428 and our obvious affinity for both, you may just find yourself doubling your watch collection today.
Unimatic Limited-Edition U1
OK, saying this specific Unimatic is limited-edition is a little misleading, because the Italian brand exclusively deals in limited-production timepieces. This particular one breaks from their more staid colorways, but features their classic brushed stainless steel case, minimalist face and bold Super-LumiNova accents.
Timex Limited-Edition Marlin
The Marlin diverts from the traditional Timex model by offering a hand-wound mechanical movement and domed acrylic lens. This Mr Porter collab edition, though, has something the others don’t: a silver dial paired with gold-tone stainless steel and a textured black leather strap.
