If the Golden State Warriors waltz to their third straight NBA title, they’ll be wearing their Boogie shoes.
Late Monday, the defending NBA champions boosted their odds of winning it all once again by adding talented free-agent center DeMarcus Cousins on a one-year, $5.3 million deal.
“Boogie” Cousins, who hasn’t played since January after tearing his ACL and may not be ready for training camp, averaged 25.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.6 blocks in 48 games for the New Orleans Pelicans last season.
The move, which bolstered Golden State’s chances of winning once again from -110 to -150, makes sense for both sides as it gives Cousins a chance to play himself back to full health in a good situation and gives Golden State a highly skilled player at a low cost.
However, that doesn’t make it any less painful for the rest of the NBA as it makes the Warriors even more of a lock to reach the Finals than they already were.
For one team with dreams of unseating the Warriors this season, especially with LeBron James now playing in the Western Conference, the Cousins news was even more painful.
