Unlike Other Athletes, Tiger Woods Will Visit Trump's White House

Before he visits the Bethpage Black golf course on Long Island for the PGA Championship and attempts to win his second major in two months, Tiger Woods will be visiting Donald Trump at the White House.

Woods, who is not expected to play in the AT&T Byron Nelson next week in Dallas, will visit Trump in D.C. on Monday.

Trump, who has golfed with Woods in the past, tweeted several times during the 43-year-old’s winning run at the Masters in Augusta and said after the tournament he planned on awarding the golfer the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer were presented with the award by President George W. Bush and Charles Sifford received it from President Barack Obama.

Last August, Woods was asked about Trump and his policies.

“Well, he’s the president of the United States,” Woods said at the time. “You have to respect the office. No matter who is in the office, you may like, dislike personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office.”

Afterward, the president tweeted: “The Fake News Media worked hard to get Tiger Woods to say something that he didn’t want to say. Tiger wouldn’t play the game – he is very smart. More importantly, he is playing great golf again!”

In the past, other athletes such as the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, NBA champion Golden State Warriors and NCAA champion Virginia Cavaliers have declined to visit Trump’s White House after winning their respective championships.
