Tom Brady, Noted Sandwich Denier, Becomes New Face of Subway to Troll Bill Belichick

Set to debut soon, Brady's ad will not feature him holding, let alone eating, Subway products

Though it will not feature him touching or holding, let alone consuming, any Subway products, Tom Brady is set to star in a new ad for the health-conscious sandwich chain that is set to debut in the near future, according to The Sports Business Journal.

Maniacal about his diet, Brady has probably not set foot in a Subway in at least the last decade, and there’s no chance he’s eaten a footlong sub from the chain, even when the price was reduced back to $5.

The same can’t be said for his former coach Bill Belichick, who crammed one of Subway’s sandwiches into his mouth for a commercial he shot for the chain last summer in a town in Connecticut. The type of sandwich, like the location of the Spygate tapes, remains unknown.

Brady signing on to do the Subway ad, which agency sources said is already in the can, even though he has written a book that contradicts much of what Subway and other fast-food places are known for could certainly be viewed as the 43-year-old QB trying to stick it to his old coach. It could also be viewed as an indication that as much as Brady likes his TB12 method, he likes money more.

Consider the direct contradiction between shilling for Subway and what he wrote in his 2017 book The TB12 Method in a chapter on nutrition that includes a mini-essay titled “The Food Industry.”

“The way I see it, food companies are more like chemical companies than anything else,” Brady wrote per ProFootballTalk. “But we keep eating what they sell us and then wondering why the rates of disease and obesity are so high. Our bodies become toxic when we ingest toxic chemicals. .. When I think about ‘food,’ I picture an avocado, a banana, a salad, a handful of nuts, or a piece of fish. I don’t picture a box of cereal, a tub of margarine, a box of doughnuts, a bag of potato chips, or anything else manufactured using salt, sugar, fat, a. Food should look like, smell like, and taste like food. I’m not saying to never eat the foods I just mentioned, as I know they taste good (and are marketed well). But try to limit them and eat more real, organic, local food.”

Subway is a lot of things, but organic, local and absent of additives, stabilizers and chemicals it’s not.

As for the many, many reports out that Brady has never eaten at a Subway, ESPN’s Seth Wickersham contends Brady used to get the chain’s meatball sub when he was attending college at the University of Michigan.
