They’re sleepless in Seattle with excitement.
The Seahawks have locked up a playoff spot after upsetting the Kansas City Chiefs in a 38-31 win on Sunday. And in the process, the team showed that the roster may look different from the 2014 Super Bowl winning squad, but the heart is in the same place.
Naysayers could be forgiven for doubting that after Seattle cut former defensive stars CB Richard Sherman and DE Cliff Avril, traded away pass rusher Michael Bennett, watched safety Kam Chancellor retire and lost its other big secondary star, Earl Thomas, to injury.
One player the team still has is quarterback Russell Wilson, who threw three touchdowns Sunday to show the Chiefs second-year sensation Patrick Mahomes how it’s done.
As The Ringer points out: “Wilson is the first starter who debuted since 1950 with a winning record in each of his first seven seasons, largely because he always knows when to give the Seahawks a little push.”
