It sounds as if Kawhi Leonard’s San Antonio sage is coming to an end.
According to ESPN, the Raptors have agreed to a deal that will bring the All-NBA forward to Toronto in exchange for a trade package that includes All-Star forward DeMar DeRozan.
Though it has yet to be approved by the league, Leonard and DeRozan are the major pieces in a swap that will also send Danny Green to Toronto and Jakob Poeltl and a protected 2019 first-round pick to San Antonio.
The trade, which Toronto and San Antonio have been talking about for two weeks, is somewhat of a risk for both sides as neither player appears to be happy about where they are going.
In a since-deleted story he posted on his Instagram page, DeRozan wrote, “Be told one thing & the outcome another. Can’t trust em. Ain’t no loyalty in this game. Sell you out quick for a little bit of nothing… Soon you’ll understand… Don’t disturb…”
For Leonard’s part, league sources say he “has no desire” to play in Toronto. That’s especially concerning for the Raptors because Leonard will be a free agent after this season and he has made it clear he would like to sign in Los Angeles with the Lakers or Clippers. Toronto could offer him five-year, $190 million contract to stay next summer, more than any other team.
DeRozan has three years and $83 million left on his contract.
