Red Sox Troll Yankees By Playing "New York, New York" After ALDS Win

After managing to outlast the Yankees during a 4-3 nailbiter in the Bronx, the Red Sox didn’t play “I’m Shipping Up to Boston” by the Dropkick Murphys in the clubhouse, even though that’s what they were going to do following their celebration.

Instead, the BoSox put on Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York” as a not-so-subtle middle finger to their hosts, in particular New York outfielder Aaron Judge.

Following the Yankees’ win in Game 2 at Fenway Park in Boston, Judge played the Sinatra tune from a boombox while walking past the Red Sox.

“It’s a good song. And Aaron, he’s one of our resident deejays, so he’s got a pretty extensive playlist,” New York manager Aaron Boone said afterward. “We like to hear that song sometimes when we win a big game.”

It came back to bite him as the Red Sox went on to win Game 3 in New York by 15 runs and then squeaked by the Yankees last night by a single run.

In the two games at Yankee Stadium, the home team was outscored 20-4 and failed to hit a home run despite crushing an MLB-record 267 during the regular season.

After taking the ALDS three games to one, the AL East champion Red Sox will advance to the ALCS against defending World Series champion Houston.

Game 1 is Saturday night in Boston.
