Billed as a pitchers’ duel, Clayton Kershaw vs. Chris Sale in Game 1 of the World Series failed to deliver as neither ace brought their A-game.

The Red Sox bats, on the other hand, brought theirs and were able to knock Kershaw around the yard as he was charged with five runs over four innings.

Kershaw’s performance didn’t sink LA though as the Dodgers were able to get runs of their own off of Chris Sale and trailed the Sox 5-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.

That lead didn’t last as Boston manager Alex Cora made the move of the night and put in pinch hitter Eduardo Nuñez to bat against lefty Alex Wood. Nuñez rewarded his manager with a three-run home run just over the Green Monster in Fenway Park.

After the game, Kershaw was accountable and complimentary.

“I didn’t pitch very well, but I don’t think the weather had anything to do with it,” Kershaw said. “They are going to be a hard team to beat. They do a great job all the way around. They hit homers, get balls in play for singles, doubles, stolen bases. All sorts of things.”

Game 2 of the World Series is tonight in Boston.
