Though they lost to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game this year, the Kansas City Chiefs have a consolation prize: Odd-makers have branded the team favorites to win the Super Bowl next year.
The biggest reason the Chiefs are the favorites is the presence of NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes on their roster.
A first-year starter for the Chiefs, Mahomes racked up 50 TDs and 5,097 yards passing in 2018 while leading the Chiefs to a 12–4 regular season record.
Thanks to Mahomes and a supporting cast including Tyreke Hill, Travis Kelce and Sammy Watkins, the Chiefs are 6-1 favorites to win Super Bowl LIV at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook and other Vegas sportsbooks.
Behind Kansas City, New England, the Los Angeles Rams, and the New Orleans Saints are all tied with the second-best odds at 8-1.
“We’ve got the Chiefs as the favorite,” CG Technology VP of risk Jason Simbal told ESPN. “We’ve taken the most bets and money on them so far.”
While the Miami Dolphins are considered the longest shot to win the Super Bowl, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Los Angeles Chargers and Chicago Bears all have decent odds at 14-1 at the SuperBook.
Before last season, the Patriots opened as 5-1 favorites to win Super Bowl LIII, while the Rams were 20-1.
Super Bowl LIV will be played on February 2 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
