Following Thursday night’s win over the previously undefeated Arizona Cardinals, the Green Bay Packers are 7-1 on the season and Matt LaFleur is the winningest coach of the Super Bowl era through his first 40 regular-season games.

Now 33-7 for a regular-season winning percentage of .825, the 41-year-old has the best record of any coach in NFL history who coached at least 25 games in his career.

An offensive coordinator for the Rams and Titans before getting the head job with the Packers, LaFleur passed all-time NFL winner Don Shula for the best win percentage by a head coach in the Super Bowl era after 40 games. Shula had an .815 win percentage with the Baltimore Colts from 1966 to 1968 with a record of 31-7-2. Chuck Knox (Rams) and George Seifert (49ers) both started their careers 32-8, an .800 win percentage.

In LaFleur’s first two seasons in Green Bay, the Packers finished 13-3 after going 6-9-1 in the season before he arrived. Prior to LaFleur taking over for the Pack, the team had only won more than 12 games in a season once with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback.

Impressive as his regular-season record is, LaFleur will need to improve on his 2-2 record in the playoffs and get his postseason winning percentage above .500 to be regarded as one of the NFL’s elite coaches.
